FTP FAQ
File Transfer Protocol
GumGum used to host the One Piece scanslations VIA ftp, hence I had written this faq, it’s not much use anymore, but what’s the use of taking it down?

Introduction
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. Basically, it’s the basis of many websites (like this one) and an awesome way to send files via internet. FTP also is relatively safe and easy to use. There are actually two ways I personally use FTP. There are many other ways as well. The ways I will discuss are; through Internet Explorer and through an FTP program which is called WS FTP LE. The program is more effecient though since it’s faster and can’t be disrupted easily.
Basics
FTP/Hostname: The server name in which everything resides
Username: The name you need to login, some servers however are anonymous and without passwords. Make sure to have the right case.
Password: The Password. Make sure you have the exact case also (be it lower case or upper case).
Through Internet Explorer
Logging In : To use FTP through Internet Explorer, just go to the address bar, and type in “ftp://” and then the ftp server. Then, a window should pop-up asking for a username and password. If you are logging in Anonymously it shouldn’t be a problem, but in all other cases, just type in the right username and password.
For Example: if the server name is “junked2.netfirms.com” type in “ftp://junked2.netfirms.com”. MAKE SURE you don’t have “http://ftp://junked2.netfirms.com” or “http://www.ftp://junked2.netfirms.com”. It has to be exactly ftp://and the server name. Then, just input the username and password.
Downloading : Go into “www”. To download, just click on the file in the FTP folder and move it onto your desktop or to another window on your harddrive. It should automatically download like that. NOTE* This takes a while, especially since IE can get disconnected. So I recommend WS FTP LE for downloading. But, if all else fails, this should work also.
WS FTP LE (or PRO etc.)
To download WS FTP LE: ws_ftple.zip [378.7KB]. Just input the information, check your email, download and use it for educational purposes ;)
Logging In : When you click “connect” in WS FTP LE, it should come up with a login (you can delete all the previously set login, because it can become tedious). For the “Profile Name” put in whatever you want, this is just what the program will nickname it as. Then, in hostname/address type in the server name. Keep the host type on “Automatically Detect” and type in the right username and password. Click Apply and Connect
Note: If the server address name is not working, just type in “ftp.” before the server name. So instead of “junked2.netfirms.com”, type in “ftp.junked2.netfirms.com”. This is usually the case for WS FTP PRO.
Downloading : To download, go to the “www” folder, and you should see the One Piece zip Files. Depending on the servers, the files should be in folders called “public_html”, “www”, or automatically connect you. Anyways, on the left hand side is your computer, just look through your folders until you find the place you want the manga to download to. Then, on the right hand side is the server where the files are. Just click the arrow that points to the right “<---" and it will download to the proposed directory. DO NOT click on the left arrow "--->“ as it will download to my server. If you accidently do that, please contact me immediately, if I see all these multipe files I will remove the FTP scanslations.
Conclusion
So, these are two ways to download via FTP. FTP is a very easy way to transfer files, and can be used from anywhere. I personally love to store my school files there to access from my university. But either way, go to netfirms to get a free ftp server/webpage account.
