Episode 199
The Search of the Marines drawing near! The Second one to be captured!
Outside of the central fortress, Robin and Usopp are going over everything they know about Navarone – the official name for G8 fortress. Usopp is unconcerned with all the little details Robin is studying. He only wants to know where Going Merry is and how he can reach her. Trying to dissuade him from acting rashly, Robin calmly tells him that it would be impossible for him to find Merry, let alone escape with her, without first investigating. Usopp, however, is young and impulsive, choosing to dash off and leave the plotting up to her. Just as he’s running away, Robin stops him and attaches him to a tree – successfully keeping him from getting caught.
They also learn that Zoro’s been captured. And Usopp is more determined than ever to find Going Merry. He and Robin separate and the troubles just keep piling up.
Sneaking into the dock, the historian spots a Marine officer in an uproar, calling for the Commander to come and greet him. This snooty man is Inspector Shepard, and when he does not receive the answer he wants, he rudely declares that he’ll go to find Jonathan on his own and that the soldier helping him should start looking for another job.
Robin targets him immediately.
Back in the kitchen, Sanji and Luffy are still preparing food for all the Marines. This time, Jonathan is among them! As Luffy goes to deliver his meal, Sanji learns that it’s for Jessica’s husband – the commander himself!
As the two leaders come face to face, sparks start to fly, especially when Jonathan stops Luffy from eating his meal. Sanji is on the other side of the door, prepared to intervene if Luffy needs his help, and Jonathan has one question: what is Luffy’s goal?
Luffy brushes him off with a simple, “We fell out of the sky” and Jonathan laughs at his innocent answer. As Luffy gets up, Jonathan tells him that even being a devil fruit user, there’s no way for him to escape. Confidently, Luffy replies that he’ll escape whenever he wants to and laughs again.
Until he hears that Zoro has been caught.
The tension between the two quickly rises as Luffy demands to know where Zoro is. Stopping the potential fight, Sanji dashes in and grabs his Captain, but the two are stopped by a crowd of angry cooks. A mob to the front and Jonathan to the back! Just as it seems they will be caught, the next group of soldiers come in. Taking the distraction to full advantage, Sanji and Luffy dash out through the crowd, narrowly avoiding capture.
Meanwhile, Usopp has donned a Marine uniform and located Going Merry! He meets Mekao, the head carpenter of G8 and the two hit it off right away. Mekao can see how clearly loved Merry is and Usopp appreciates his expertise. They’re interrupted by Drake, who has come to check on the “new recruit”. Usopp answers a question incorrectly and is surrounded by swords! Just as things are getting tough for him, Usopp decides to pretend he’s the inspector that Jonathan is waiting for. Everything is going well until Robin walks in disguised as Inspector Sheppard.
The situation worsens for the Mugiwara Kaizoku-dan! Robin is being watched, even though she’s disguised, Zoro now has an armed guard, and Sanji and Luffy are frantically searching for the prison to free their friends. Commander Jonathan has all his pieces right where he wants them.
The second crew member captured is Usopp!
