When episode 196 opens, this is the song that greets our ears – while images of a small island, surrounded on all sides by high walls and connected only by 3 central bridges, is show on screen. Sung by Marines, we soon find out that this place – G8 – is the hedgehog fortress for the marines. It seems to have obtained a bad reputation amongst the other marines, however, since it has not received a pirate attack for many years.
Meanwhile, the carpenters of G8 are repairing a Marine Battle Ship which has sustained heavy dammage. Mekao, one of the elder carpenters, remarks that the ship must have climbed a mountain to receive such damage. As the younger men are laughing, one of them jokes that it must have fallen out of the sky – just as Going Merry comes crashing down from its journey to Skypiea.
For the first time in years, the alarms of the Hedgehog Fortress sound in great distress. Enemies have invaded from the sky! As soldiers rush about the halls – fortifying defenses and waking up sniper units – the main gate for G8 is closed and the Mugiwara Kaizoku-dan are officially identified as the criminals! But what has become of the crew?
Going Merry is completely deserted, marines are reporting hands growing out of their body, and now the crew’s precious gold has been confiscated by Commander Johnathon! More than that, he seems to have a good grasp on how they should operate. The entirety of G8 is looking for Luffy’s crew – so where are they?
Chopper is unsuccesfully hiding in the forests on the shores of the fortress; Zoro is stranded in channel; Nami is hiding the Waver in a field on the opposite shore from Chopper; Sanji is hiding (and being shot at) in a tree; Usopp and Robin are together on the shore, listening in on Marines; and the Captain?
Luffy is standing in the open, trying to decide which door will take him to food.
As Commander Jonathan is deducing how many members of the crew their are, one of them has already snuck inside the base. Chopper has unknowingly slipped into G8 fortress and is now being chased by Marines! What’s more, Nami has discovered the terrible secret to G8 – there is only one exit! As all the members converge into the base, racing to find each other, Commander Jonathan is setting up his chess board.
Current location for Crew Members: 1. Chopper (Upper Level of base, near windows) 2. Zoro (Shore of the main G8 fortress) 3. Nami (Cliff overlooking G8, off main coast) 4. Usopp & Robin (Sneaking into G8) 5. Luffy & Sanji (Also sneaking into G8…though not very stealthily)
