Why I love One Piece
Many people ask me why I like One Piece. To tell you the truth, my little sister, Hana introduced me to the anime. After looking at a few drawings of it I thought it would be a piece of crap. I was wrong.
One Piece is not only a good anime it’s one of a kind. In Japan it is one of the top grossing anime series still running, not to mention a running manga. So let me take it into steps. One Piece is good because of a variety of reasons, I’ll work my way from the obvious basics to my own personal perspective.s
Basics
There are thousands and thousands of anime that air or have aired in Japan. However, out of those thousands, only a few main ones survive. The anime that survive are those which have something different from the others that make them stand out, that is, originality. One Piece excels in this aspect of originality. For the most obvious reason you can look at the basic time period and what the plot revolves around. I have probably seen a million anime with Samurai, Ninja, and Fighters who transform into such and such. It becomes tedious seeing the same type of thing over and over again. Of course, I’m not saying that these anime are BAD it’s just that they get repetitive unless of course they stand out of the ordinary in different ways (Like Rurouni Kenshin- a samurai anime). Either way, One Piece takes place in a time period which is in development and sea faring is the main way to go. The most interesting thing, however is how it is a Pirate Anime. Believe me, no one knows about pirate anime. Furthermore, Eichiro Oda trys to add a little spice to the anime by making fruits that give powers. No, No ! Not powers like in Sailor Moon or DBZ (that psychic light energy stuff) but a variety of powers that give balance, like Luffy and his Stretch Powers (Which by the way is original in itself as I have never heard of stretching except in Street Fighter and Daalsim), Ace and his fire (yes common, but balances out all the different powers,) and the Colonel’s smoke power. So the powers and the time period tie themselves into the plot as being one of the main elements. These of course are all original ideas not found in any other anime but One Piece. The characters are also very interesting and original. I can tell you for a fact that the characters are very balanced and mutual. After watching so many anime, I have never seen such human type of characteristics. What I mean by this is that the characters have a little bit of everything, just like we all have a little bit of everything. For Example, Zoro is a guy who acts very serious in a battle or around many people but this doesn’t stop him from laughing and having fun. Of course, he doesn’t laugh as much as Luffy or so, but he still does it. Compare this to most other anime who have these badass type of guys who are serious, like Sasuke in Naruto who is very serious ALL the time except very very few. Come on, no one is ever like that, everyone has to let loose sometimes, you get mad once, you smile the next. I mean it’s just the circle of life. Be a little more observant here. Either way, originality is the basics as it is what makes this anime popular and appeal to most people.
Perspective
Now for the perspectives. Basicly, this is my own view of why I like One Piece. Enough of course to make this whole domain based upon this particular anime. The views of course differ from one person to another _.
One Piece is one of my favorite anime for a variety of reasons. I can tell you right off I’m not stupid that I don’t know any other anime. I have seen loads of them. Only about 3-4 out of the 50 I have seen so far, have appealed to me. These 3 anime have nothing in common, so it is not like I like a particular type of anime like sports or so (Just if you are curious- they are Rurouni Kenshin, One Piece, Cowboy Beebop and Fruits Basket). The rest are just crap to me. Either way, on with my perpective! First of all, I love the character development in One Piece and how it sticks to the type of people they are. I mean it still has its own suprises but it doesn’t stray from the type of character. I mean, so many anime have the characters make different choices when you don’t expect it. But One Piece tells you straight out what type of person he/she is and what exactly they might do in a situation. We all know what Luffy gets like when someone gets him pissed off. In transition, how he loves meat no matter what the situation. It didn’t come as a suprise to us when Robin saved Luffy in Alabastan and the first thing he said was “Meat”. Either way, the characters stick to their plot. Besides this, probably the best thing about this and the main mix of characters is the comedy. One Piece manages to be VERY comedical without making itself look stupid. For example, Excel Saga is comedical and is supposed to be stupid, but One Piece is probably very close to it but manages to stay focused on the storyline and still makes the characters look cool. I love the comedy and the drawings themselves match with this. Now let me explain the drawings. I can’t lie and say that the drawings appealed to me from the very beginning. I thought they were crap in the beginning and judged the anime would be also. But, after watching One Piece I see how perfectly the drawings fit in there. It’s not like Eichiro Oda cant’ draw, he can draw like anything, it’s just that he meant it to be this way according to the anime. I mean Luffy with like this chizeled face just wouldn’t go. The drawings match the people and the storyline. It adds emphasis to it. Besides this, when you look at Eichiro Oda’s drawings they stand way off from anyone elses. I must tell you sometimes drawings in anime look VERY VERY similar. I mean, I always have to rememebr that that dude from Excel Saga is not the same from the dude in Tenchi Muyo!. They look similar and many times I get lost telling. I always get confused with Sayuki and DNA Angel. Just by the looks I am saying. One Piece’s art, however, announces itself out of all the other art. You can tell right off that its One Piece or a work by Eichiro Oda. Finally, this brings me down to my perspective of the plot. I have seen many anime, as I mentioned before but never have I seen something with the ‘adventure’ feeling to it like One Piece. I know many anime are about travelling and such, but most of the time they know where they are going etc. But One Piece just keeps sailing on not knowing which island they will land on next but just the fact that they want to reach One Piece or see All Blue or whatnot. The goals are set but not the path. So its a huge adventure just that way.
Anyways these are some reasons I love One Piece. I wanted to clear them up as many people, like my friends, ask me why I like it. It is really important to explain I think, plus perhaps someone will read this and try to explore the anime/manga itself and hence we will have another fan of One Piece.

Why do I like one piece so much? Well, that’s simple…because it ROCKS!! iIt’s so unique and all of the characters have such an amazing story and no episode is boring. I love all of the characters man..luffy,zoro,nami,usopp,sanji,chopper, whoever! I’ve seen about 81 episodes so I know what I’m talking about.. One piece is truly the best…
I love this anime cos it surprised me. I also disliked the drawing at the start, but after the 1st episode, I found the drawing really fits into the anime. I remember the first time I started reading the comic, I couldn’t stop myself and read for 4 hours…(I downloaded 300 chapters…)
You can really feel the friendships in One Piece, unlike Naruto, I just don’t feel the friendship between Naruto and Sasuke as deep as those in One Piece.
At last, the one element that I really like about One Piece is the control of the climax of the plot. I might have worded it wrong, but I really mean that One Piece is a bit like Naruto in the way that it actually make you really hate those bad guys that you’d really want to punch them. And at that exact moment, you see how Luffy seriously beat them up, just like in the 1st episode of Naruto, Naruto beat the crap out of that forgot-what-name after that forgot-what-name said something like “a kid like you can never beat me”. This is what I meant by good control of the climax of the plot. Let’s look at DBZ, when Cell stepped on Android 16’s head, I think that scene meant to make you hate Cell, but I didn’t feel anything…although Gohan did…
So whoever haven’t seen One Piece, I recommend you do, it’s a worthy one.
Well here’s my little story. First I knew only faintly that it exist. Everytime I saw Luffy I tought “yuck! Whatta farmer boy” (and regred it very deeply now ;__;) But after viz started to translate it I bought vol.2 and liked it enough to buy vol.3. And then I downloaded anime epis 1-80 (they were the only ones what had been subbed so far) and watched them inna row. I fell in love with the storyline! That everyone has dreams and there is this unknoen path waiting you there! That it starts from the very begining where Luffy didn’t have anything but collects them while going forward. Like friends, the ship, and the characters of course! For example Luffy. First you get the impression “oh man, he’s stupid” but maybe that’s just because he lives carefree life and wan’t to have fun. He’s cute, adorable but also very, very cool sometimes!!! And theres so much to tell but this is already too long ;o;
I simply just love One Piece!!! X3
One Piece is great, it’s got everything, someone (luffy) who is out to prove he can be king of teh pirates by being himself, not trying to prove he’s something he’s not, and to give shanks his hat back of course. One Piece is a crazy adventure and I love the art syle, it’s got something different that makes it stick out and stick with you. I LUV One Piece!
I Love ONE PIECE!!! It is the best!!!! Luffy is a CUTTIE!!! Sanji’s a HUNK!!! Zoro is ALL THAT!!! Ussop’s OK!!! My favortive episode the ones when you frist Sanji, and the ones with thoses people like Mr.0, Mr.1, and Mr.2. Mr.2 was my favortive. He’s sooooooooo GAY!!!!!
When I first saw One piece on a website i thought OH NO what is anime coming to. I thought the drawings sucked basically everything but later after that i saw an advert on tv saying One piece coming soon on Toonami and this time around the drawings looked cool. So i couldnt help myself i went straight on the internet and searched for one piece and thats how i found Gum Gum. After that on www.shonenjump.com I downloaded some chapters (In random order) after that i got Romance Dawn (volume 1) now ive got volume 2 and im getting a ton of One piece merchandise of Ebay.
I love one piece because it’s awesome. it’s hilarious. There’s never a boring episode. All of the characters (luffy, zoro, nami, usopp, sanji, chopper, & robin) are so unique and they make a good team. They kick ass in almost every episode! I hate how 4kids butchered the show for fox, but it’s OK… because the original one piece is the best… and that’s all that matters!

When ever I see One Piece ,I’m so happy because when I see the manga I know that I’ll reading for hours and hours! I love Inuyasha but One Piece is the BEST!!!
One piece struck me as a great anime because of its suprises and all its comedy.you wont normally find funny stuff like that in other anime/manga stuff.(like that time in the episode after ussop joins the crew they go to the island and meet Mr.shrub-lol! i love that name-. luffy gets the treasure on the top of the mini mountain.but the chests were empty.you know that luffy never steals or is greedy, but how he acts in not bringing it down is kinda funny.you also see everyone is suprised exept zolo,who just smirks.)there is this other show called avatar the last airbender on nick.its funny mainly. but one piece is also serous at times. like the episode on zolo’s past.how they mantain that balence between comedy and serous and plot stories.the plot also interests me.luffy has a great goal, but in the begining he started out with nothing.every other story they have most of the stuff or skim though the begining path in all of the stories. you can see exacly how luffy ge! ts started ,it is a goal but no path.and you can clearly see his personality, and all of the other personalities of his crew.(nami; witty Zolo:Ambitus Ect.) and thier feelings, they are not just serious or contiusly laughing, or eating constantly(why does luffy and zolo stretch more to eating?!?). all i have to say is that one piece is one of the 2 greatest anime shows ever
I played a Lucas Arts game named “Monkey Island” which resembles One Piece in many aspects (or vice versa :D) when i was a kid. That game really has a unique atmospehere with all piratey things and some stuff from 1990s!! Furthermore, I love anime and all types of animation, that’s why i love One Piece that much. The setting is like caribbean at the age of pirates but characters dress like they are modern age people. (sanji wears a suit!!!) They use Beli as a currency istead of gold coins. The atmosphere is awesome.. Second thing is the characters, i think everybody finds a part of themselves in any character of one piece. The whole story is about friendship, pride and dreams that most of us today people have forgotten about…
Well here’s my story on why I like One Piece so much: My sister, and I where roaming a library in the local mall, and we searched around to see if we could find any anime videos. As my sister skimmed through the anime videos I looked at the mangazines right next to the videos, and noticed a Shonen Jump manga. I picked it up, and quickly skimmed through it, and was amazed at how many pages it had. My sister, and I both had bought one. When we returned home, I instantly began reading through this manga, and finally came to the One Piece. I sort of stuck my tongue out at it because of the drawings on the character page, but then as I read through the comic I found myself lauging until my lungs where numb! (exaderation) I soon got interested in this anime, and instantly went to google to look it up, and I was verry inpressed with the colored drawings of the characters. I also noticed as I read through the comic, that none of the characters looked the same like Usopp com! pared to Luffy, or some of the random towns people in the background, or the pirates in the ememies crew, or the cooks on the Baratie, and so on. I like how the many different characters have many different skills, and weapons they use. for example Luffy with his stretchyness, and Sanji with his powerfull kick. My sister didn’t like One Piece when she read it in Shonen Jump manga, and she still despises it now that it came on Toonami. Although some of the characters look sort of creepy, but they’re verry unique. Example: Don Krieg. I know how many of the people who have sent in their comments have said that the characters are unique, well it’s verry true! I love Luffy’s cheerfullness, because it reminds me of.. well Me! And I like Sanji’s charming yet serious personality, and I also like his love for women because it reminds me of Miroku. I like Nami because she verry smart, and likes to steal things. I like Usopp because of his cowardlyness, and his wild stories. Whenever ! he tells one I bust out laughing, and can’t stop. I like Zoro’s seriousness, and how he can just take a nap anywhere like Luffy. I’ve probably said too much already, but it really is a great show, and I’d have to agree on it’s a one of a kind show. I mean how often to see pirates on an anime? Never! And that’s what really makes One Piece stick out above the others. Oh, and my favorite part at the biggining of the show is: “My Fortune is your’s for the taking, but you’ll have to find it first. I left everything I own in One Piece. I also like about this anime is they don’t have square faces like I’ve noticed in many of the animes that I watch, although some don’t have square faces, but most of the time I see them square faces. Your probably thinking,“What? Square faces what are you talking about?!” Well take Shaman king for instance most of the characters have pointy box like heads, and really pointy chins. I’m not saying Shaman King is a bad show, because it’s not, that’s! just what I’ve noticed anyway. Well thank you for giving me this space to express my feelings about One Piece!
I love One Piece b/c of its originality. You can tell it apart from everything else. I was getting tired of all those “otherworldy, dark powers” every other anime show seems to be based on. Plus, you can get attached to these characters-they are like real people with their personalities and all; they’re not superficial, one-sided beings. Also, I love trying to master this unique style in my drawings. I LOVE ONE PIECE!!!

At first I had no idea what One Piece was, but my friend gave it to me because he thought I would like it, so I obtained (at that time) up to the end of Arlong arc episodes, when I watched it, I was totally HOOKED!!!!! It’s original!!!! It’s great! It’s brilliant!!! What got me so hooked was because of Arlong arc!!! The story is soooooo touching and awesome!!!! I love the theme of Nakama!!!! I know there are note many people in the real world who will treasure their friends like that, that’s why I love it so much!! Then I started reading the manga because I couldn’t wait and now, it’s my ALL TIMJE FAVOURITE MANGA/ANIME!!!!!! Right now Luffy is soooooo cool in Water 7 (if you don’t know, you will know soon! =D) and the story keeps getting better and better!!!!!!!!!! Of course there are other series that I really like (FMA, Fruits Basket, CCS), but nothing compares to One Piece!!!!!!! I have watched countless anime because I lived in Hong Kong in my childhood, but nothing sticks me as interesting as One Piece!!!!!!
In this time and age when the most common liked anime/manga is stuff like Naruto, or Ruroni Kenshin, or Inuyasha (*shudder*) One Piece is truly the greatest out of all due to the fact that Oda-sensei doesn’t have to rely on nudity and lame foul language to make it as cool as One Piece is. Wanpisu is truly a manga/anime for the people who aren’t quite as mature as they should be…(me!) :) it is a work of art in itself. But, when I hear people say Zolo (ahhhh!) I still have a spax attack. I’ve been trying to get over that for a while…One Piece 4ever! Sayonara! :)

One Piece is an anime that caught my attention, it’s just my style! It has tons of imagination, cool characters and much more! Each character has a past which is explained at the right moments and the Devil Fruit cerintally adds to the imagination. the vilians are great and it’s intresting how there’s not just any one villian. I hope to see more of Eiichiro Oda’s work in the future.
“It was the time where pirates ruled the seas…” Now, how many anime shows have you seen that say that?! Not any, I say! It’s a truly original manga and anime, and that’s why I truly lenjoy it.
Why is it original? Well, let me see here…........
First of all, the people are real. Of course, Zoro has green hair and Sanji’s hair always covers his left eye. Come on, anime has to have its perks; but what I’m really talking about is their personalities. Sanji and Zoro are the more serious characters, but once in awhile Luffy or Chopper does something that just cracks them up. Like after Chopper is accepted into the crew: Luffy sticks chopsticks up his nose and uses the other ends to push down his mouth, and you’ll see everyone laughing their heads off. (Note: Zoro’s usually happy after he’s been properly fed; like a little puppy!) Also, Luffy and Usopp are not dunces all the time…(Well, Usopp’s usually the same old needle-nosed coward…) because, in the early manga volumes, Buggy slices Luffy’s hat and poor little Luffy gets awfully steamed. It’s then that Nami realizes that Luffy’s hat isn’t valuble to any other pirate, just Luffy and Shanks.
So, say hooray to Gum-Gum fruits galore! Go Luffy, Zoro, Ace, Sanji, Usopp, Chopper, Nami, Vivi, Robin, and all the other crew members to the STRAW HAT PIRATES! GO EIICHIRO! YOU SERIOUSLY ROCK!!!!! THANKS FOR THIS SERIES!

I love One Piece becuase it is a fantastic anime, an anime that shows that dreams aren’t impossible, as long as you keep working on them! It has extreme depth and character, ecspecially the way that Luffy has to find a crew, each crew member has something special about them, their own dream, their own past and how they all get along and pull through when times are bad. The adventures the Straw Hat Crew get up to are just fantastic, when it was starting off in East Blue, going up in the sky to Skypiea or most recently busting out Robin from the CP9 Base, they always make me in a happy mood and some of the lines the crew say about eachother can be quite touching at times, ecspecially when Luffy says it because he cares about his crew and the fact that he needs all of them to achieve his dream, and that is why I truly love One Piece, perhaps the greatest anime in history.
I love One Piece!! I love it so much because it was the first anime i ever saw. And it was teh best i ever saw! My friends may think it’s stupid, but that’s because they’ve only watched one episode…that was dubbed. GAHHH!! The dubbed version is TERRIBLE!!!! I couldn’t believe how much 4Kids took out of it!!! Anyways, i’m a die hard One Piece fan and i will always be! So… BOO YAH!

ONepiece rocks I fallin in love at first sight when saw the manga. its kinda seriously-stupid. the atmosphere is unique from a sea of adventure to the hot dessert. its topic from politic(drum, alabasta) to religion(skypiea) but there are can be something really-really-really stupid goes on!!!.

Why do i love one piece ? there’s lot of my friends asked me ‘bout that. ^^; I usually say ‘coz the storyline is GREAT! but, behind that reason, the special reason is the story about the crews’ friendship and their try to reach their dreams. one piece is an anime which tell us what we should do to reach our dreamS. never give up!! >,< i learn a lot about that. the story also awsome,too. oda has special ideas to make his fans always enjoys one piece anytime. i never bored about that. except to wait for the new episods…oda can make his fans dreaming more and more…the characters’ are also diffrent from other mangaka. it’s unique,expressive, andd… amazing..!! no one mangaka can beat Oda !! ^^ OnePiece is a masterpiece in the anime world. It’s BrilliantT!!!
i don’t like it…..but i LOVE it!!!!! it brings me to laugh or cry. it teaches me what true friends are and what dreams are for. sometimes i cried just by hearing it’s music. but the main reason why i love it is because there’s ZORO in one piece. Love Zoro, Forever!!!!!!!
I love one piece becauce its unique and so so funny.and i love luffy’s character,his determination and“di ka namin iiwan” thing w/ his friends.before,when i watched it,i got scolded, because they say its abnormal bcoz im too old for anime,but when they watched it with me,it proved them wrong,now,One Piece is the official favorite anime of the family!!!YeS!!!
I agree with you on so many levels. I also appreciate the lighthearted quality the anime mantains. I must say your favorites are the same as mine with one exception… You might look into Fullmetal Alchemist… That’s a good one. Anyway, One Piece rocks.
